PerformYard migration: from aligned goals to objectives and key results
Facts checked October 27, 2026
PerformYard's goal export is built around goals. Each row has one assignee, a target, units and an outlook, and can support another goal, but the file has no key result column. So the export is simple, but the shape changes on the way to OKIAR: you choose which goals become objectives and which become the key results under them.
The file itself comes from one button. PerformYard's Goals Across the Organization article says any goal list can be downloaded as a CSV, based on the filters you've set.
Before you start: widen the default list
- Clear the default filter. The company goal list starts with active public goals only. Change the filters if you want completed goals or goals with other transparency settings in the file.
- Use an administrator. The three goal views are always visible to administrators, so an admin export gives the widest list.
- Plan the OKR shape. Top Goals are the obvious objectives. Decide whether the goals that support them become child objectives or key results.
- Keep reviews in mind. PerformYard's pricing is per seat, billed annually, with products chosen separately. If you keep reviews there, ask what removing goals does to the contract.
Step 1: Choose the PerformYard export
| Route | Where | Format | Gives you | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Goal list CSV | Goals dropdown, goal list, Download CSV | CSV | Every goal in the filtered list with alignment | Almost always |
| Alignment view | Goals dropdown, Alignment | On screen | Top Goals and their supporting goals | Checking the tree |
| Overview | Goals dropdown, Overview | Charts | Outlook and completion totals | Checking counts |
| API | api.talent.performyard.com | JSON | Goals, categories and outlooks | You script the move |
The goal list CSV
Open the Goals dropdown and go to the goal list. Click the filter button next to the search bar, widen the filters, then click Download CSV. The file has these columns: Assignee, Name, Description, Status, Last Status Update (As of Date), Categories, Start date, Due date, Outlook, Current value, Target, Units, Current progress, Transparency, Alignment, Alignment assignee, Assignee group and Creation date.
Alignment names the goal each row supports, and Alignment assignee names its owner. Those two columns rebuild the tree.
Through the API
PerformYard's API reference lists endpoints to retrieve goals, goal categories and goal outlooks. It also documents creating a goal, where the fields include a top level flag, a weight compared with the person's other goals, and the ID of the single goal it aligns to. Most teams won't need the API for a one-time move.
Step 2: Check the PerformYard CSV
Before you plan the move, check four things:
- The row count matches the goal list for the same filters.
- Every Alignment value matches a goal Name in the file.
- Shared goals appear once per assignee. PerformYard creates a separate goal for each person, so merge the copies you want as one objective.
- Rows with Units and a Target are marked as key result candidates.
If an Alignment name has no match, the parent is probably outside your filters, for example a completed Top Goal. Widen the filters and download again.

Step 3: Rebuild your PerformYard goals in OKIAR
OKIAR's goal import takes the CSV, and also spreadsheets with several sheets, PDF, Word, text, Markdown, up to 5 MB. It helps map people, teams and parent links for you to review. You can run it at sign-up or later.
- Sign up free at okiar.app/signup.
- Import current goals first.
- Check which rows became objectives and which became key results.
- Merge goals that several people hold. Add the extra people as owners if they share it. Extra owners are optional.
- Group objectives into teams using Assignee group.
- Set weights where one key result should count more. OKIAR supports weighting.
- Pick periods. Custom periods fit PerformYard start and due dates.

Outlook versus pacing
PerformYard's outlook is chosen by people. In OKIAR, status comes from pacing. Its objective docs set 0.7 or more of expected progress as On track, 0.4 to 0.69 as Behind and less than 0.4 as At risk. Owners can mark Not started, Closed or Abandoned. A confidence score from 0 to 10 goes with each check-in.
Step 4: Replace the integrations
PerformYard's Slack integration posts recognition to one channel. Its Microsoft Teams integration posts recognition too and can deliver daily notifications, as long as emails match in both systems.
| PerformYard | OKIAR |
|---|---|
| Slack recognition posts | Slack goal reminders and updates; recognition stays out of scope |
| Teams daily notifications | No Teams app; use Slack or Telegram |
| API scripts | OKIAR's MCP server creates objectives, key results and KPIs, and updates progress and check-ins |
Step 5: Run the first check-in
Pick the day and stick to it. Each owner records current values, a confidence score and blockers. Compare the top objectives with PerformYard's Alignment view. When they agree, file the CSV and use bulk actions in PerformYard to complete or archive the old goals.
