7Geese migration: moving your objectives out of Paycor Talent Development

Facts checked October 27, 2026

If you run OKRs in 7Geese, you're running them in a product that has changed hands twice. Paycor bought 7Geese in 2020, and Paychex closed its purchase of Paycor on April 14, 2025. Today Paycor's 7Geese page calls the product Paycor Talent Development and says existing customers keep their access and the 7Geese knowledge base.

Paycor has no page called "how to export your goals." The old knowledge base does still describe a working export, though, and two APIs. This guide stitches those pieces into a plan and is honest about the gaps.

Before you start: work out which 7Geese you have

There are two kinds of customer now. Standalone customers still log in to app.7geese.com. Others use Talent Development as part of the Paycor HR platform. The Paycor Legacy Care help center keeps a "Standalone App Support" section, and some articles, like the Google Sheets one, say they apply to standalone customers only. So don't assume every export below exists in your account until you've looked.

Gather this first:

  • A login with admin rights, or at least access to every department's objectives.
  • Your current cycle dates, since the export filters by due date.
  • The support address on Paycor's page, support@7geese.com, in case your plan has lost a feature.
  • Paycor's terms for your contract. The 2020 7Geese enterprise terms say you own your customer data, but we found no clause about returning it at the end.

Which 7Geese export can you get?

A few yes-or-no questions, based on the 7Geese help articles cited above.

Question 1

Do you still have a working 7Geese or Paycor Talent Development login?

Objective Explorer to Excel

Paycor's Objective Explorer article is the closest thing to an export guide. Explorer filters objectives by due date (quarter, cycle or a custom range), people (owners, stakeholders or followers), label, location, status, type and keyword, and by whether they're open or closed. You can group results by owner, department or due date. Then, in the article's words, "you can download the report as an Excel file or print/ PDF your results."

Run it once with no people filter and the widest due date range you need, for both open and closed objectives. Group by department so the file is easier to read.

Key results and weights

The Explorer article doesn't say whether key results or their weights come along in that Excel file. Open the file and check. 7Geese lets you weight key results and child objectives on six levels, from No effect (0) through Normal (3, the default) up to Highest (5). An objective's progress is the weighted average. If the file has no weights, write down every weight that isn't Normal from the objective pages, because those are the ones that change the math.

GraphQL and REST APIs

The GraphQL article says you can try queries in the GraphiQL explorer at app.7geese.com/graphql while signed in. Its example fetches each profile's open owned objectives with their name and progress. For scripts, the REST article has you register an application at app.7geese.com/account/applications/ and get an OAuth2 token.

The REST root at app.7geese.com/api/v1/ still lists endpoints for objectives, key results, check-ins, team objectives, organizational objectives and related objectives. The detailed schemas need a login, and the old public API docs page now returns an error, so plan some trial and error.

No login any more

Email support@7geese.com, or call the support number on Paycor's 7Geese page, and ask for an export of objectives, key results and check-ins. If nothing comes back in time, rebuild from your last review deck or from the OKR examples on our site.

Step 2: Check the 7Geese file

7Geese objectives come in three types: personal, departmental and organizational. Your file should make the type of every row clear, because that becomes the nesting later.

Before you plan the move, test the Excel file on these points:

  1. Every objective has an owner, and those owners still work for you.
  2. Departmental and organizational objectives say which department or company goal they belong to.
  3. Key results show a current value and a target, not just a percentage.
  4. Closed objectives you don't want are filtered out.

Check-ins in 7Geese record each key result's value, a status of On Track, Off track or None, and a message. That history probably won't fit in the Excel file. If past check-in messages matter for reviews, save them separately, through the API or by hand.

File check

Is your export ready to import?

Tick the four checks as you do them and enter your file size.

Enter your file size to check it against the upload limit.

  • Still to do: Every objective has an owner who still works here
  • Still to do: Departmental and organizational objectives show what they belong to
  • Still to do: Key results have a current value and a target
  • Still to do: Closed objectives I don’t want are filtered out

Step 3: Bring the plan into OKIAR

OKIAR's goal import, described in the sign-up docs, takes your Explorer download as it is: Excel (multiple sheets are fine), CSV, PDF, Word, text, Markdown, or a CSV converted from an API export, up to 5 MB. It helps map people, teams and parent links for you to review and builds a draft you correct before saving. You can run it while signing up or later.

  1. Create a free account at okiar.app/signup.
  2. Upload the Excel file. If an API script gave you JSON, upload that instead, or both if the first draft misses something.
  3. Rebuild the three 7Geese levels: organizational objectives at the top, departmental beneath, personal under the departments.
  4. Set key result weights. OKIAR supports weighting, so copy every weight that wasn't Normal in 7Geese. A No effect key result may be one to drop.
  5. Add owners with a role. OKIAR uses Admin, Manager, Contributor and Viewer.
  6. Add a second owner only where two people really share the result; it's optional.
  7. Set the period to match your 7Geese cycle. Custom periods work.

OKIAR rolls nested objectives up into their parent. The OKIAR facts we have don't say whether a child objective can carry its own weight, so look at those parents after import and adjust the key results if the roll-up looks off.

Status in OKIAR

7Geese asked people to pick On Track or Off track. OKIAR works it out. Following the objective anatomy docs, it divides real progress by expected progress at that date: 0.7 or more is On track, 0.4 to 0.69 is Behind, and below 0.4 is At risk. Not started, Closed and Abandoned are set directly, and every check-in also asks for confidence from 0 to 10.

Step 4: Replace the 7Geese integrations

The legacy help center lists Google and Outlook calendars for 1-on-1s, Google Sheets, Jira and Salesforce for key results, plus Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zapier and Flowdock. Here's what each becomes:

  • Google Sheets, Jira and Salesforce feeds. The Sheets integration synced a cell into a key result every hour. In OKIAR, the owner types the number at check-in.
  • Slack. OKIAR posts to channels and sends DMs.
  • Microsoft Teams. OKIAR has no Teams app. Telegram works for direct messages.
  • Zapier and the APIs. OKIAR offers an MCP server with 14 tools for AI assistants. It can create objectives, key results and KPIs, update values and log check-ins.
  • 1-on-1s, reviews, recognition and feedback. These sit outside an OKR move. If your teams use them in 7Geese, decide where they'll live before you close the account.

Step 5: Run one cycle and close the old account

Pick one week where everybody checks in to OKIAR instead of 7Geese. Ask for the number, a confidence score and any blocker. After that week, compare progress on your top organizational objectives in both tools. If they match, tell Paycor you're done, but get the Explorer export, any API output and the archived check-ins saved somewhere permanent first. The 2020 enterprise terms give 7Geese a license to your data only for the term plus 30 days, and we found no promise that it's kept after that.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official 7Geese export guide?

Not as a migration guide. The Objective Explorer article in Paycor's legacy help center does document an Excel and PDF download, and the API articles cover JSON access.

Does the Objective Explorer export include key results?

Paycor's article doesn't say. Download it, look, and fill gaps from the objective pages or the API.

Can OKIAR keep my 7Geese weights?

OKIAR supports key result weighting, so you can set them again. 7Geese uses a 0 to 5 scale, so match the relative sizes rather than copying numbers blindly.

Do I need a Paycor contract to keep using 7Geese?

Paycor says existing 7Geese customers keep access and support. Pricing for Talent Development is by quote.

What does OKIAR charge?

It's in a free beta. No card is taken, there's no published end date, and accounts carry over when the paid product starts.

More guides: the Betterworks migration guide, the Weekdone migration guide, the Viva Goals migration guide and the Quantive migration guide.
