Small Improvements alternatives for teams whose objectives need more

Facts checked October 27, 2026

Small Improvements is a review tool known for being simple to set up and cheap to start. Reviews come first, and objectives arrive on the second plan as "Essential Objectives", next to 360 feedback, 1:1s and pulse surveys.

That order works until objectives become the thing leadership watches. Then the gaps show: alignment that breaks when you copy goals forward, no import, no Teams app. This page compares six alternatives, checked on October 27, 2026, for a Small Improvements customer at that point.

Where Small Improvements falls short

Objectives start on Grow. The pricing page puts reviews on Launch at $3 per user and objectives on Grow at $6, both billed annually. Grow has a 20-user minimum and Elevate, at $9, a 30-user minimum. A 12-person team pays for 20.

Copying goals forward breaks alignment. The Objectives FAQ covers what happens when you clone or move an aligned objective into a new cycle: the link to its parent doesn't come along, so quarterly OKR teams relink every cycle.

No Microsoft Teams app. The integrations collection covers Slack, Google Workspace, calendars, HRIS systems, SSO and a REST API. A company on Teams gets nothing in chat.

No objectives import. Goals have to be typed in. Help with setup is available, at $200 an hour.

What Small Improvements gets right

It stays easy. Customers on its pricing page praise how quickly it sets up, a 30-day trial lets you run a real cycle first, and Launch at $3 is one of the cheapest ways to run reviews properly. Exports are generous: HR admins can export objectives per cycle as .xls or .csv, ordered by owner or by objective, with columns you choose. If you leave, support can turn on a full XML export of the whole database, meant for loading into another system. An MCP connector also lets AI assistants read your data.

Six Small Improvements alternatives

Leapsome

Leapsome is the grown-up version of what Small Improvements does: reviews, feedback, 1:1s, surveys and goals, priced by module. Leapsome's pricing lists Goals & OKRs at €4 and Performance Reviews at €7 per employee per month, with a 14-day trial and no setup fee. From December 31 a €7 HRIS Foundation applies, free if you buy a module before then.

For goals, it fixes two Small Improvements gaps. An Excel import loads goals with up to 12 key results, and the Teams integration sends notifications, reminders and digests. Read our Leapsome alternatives.

15Five

15Five suits a Small Improvements customer that wants weekly check-ins as well as reviews. 15Five's pricing puts Perform, with reviews, 360s, a talent matrix and weighted OKRs, at $11 per user per month billed annually. Engage surveys alone are $4, and Total Platform is $16.

Objectives can be imported from CSV by an Account Admin, and the Teams app covers 1-on-1s and notifications. It costs nearly double Grow, so it's a step up in budget as well as features. See our 15Five alternatives.

PerformYard

PerformYard keeps the HR-led feel of Small Improvements and adds service. PerformYard's pricing quotes $5 to $15 per person per month, billed annually, for reviews, goals, meetings, feedback and surveys. Every customer gets a dedicated success manager, hands-on implementation and unlimited training, with no onboarding fees, which compares well with paying $200 an hour.

It's weak where Small Improvements is weak, though: there's no goal import in the app, only an API. Its Teams app sends daily notifications, which Small Improvements can't. Read our PerformYard alternatives.

Teamflect

Teamflect is the answer if Microsoft Teams is why you're leaving. Teamflect's pricing is free for up to 10 users, then Essential at $7 or $9 per user depending on billing, with reviews, OKRs, 360 feedback, surveys, 1:1s and recognition all inside Teams and Outlook. Tasks sync with Planner and Microsoft To Do.

Goals load through a bulk upload with owners, parents and weights, so a Small Improvements export can come across with structure. There's no Slack app. See our Teamflect alternatives.

Tability

Tability is for the team that keeps Small Improvements for reviews and wants a dedicated OKR tool beside it. Tability's pricing has Basic at $6 or $7 and Premium at $10 or $12 per user per month depending on billing. It has no reviews and focuses on plans, OKRs, KPIs and weekly check-ins.

Its AI importer reads XLSX or CSV files up to 10 MB and builds plans from them, though it doesn't create users. Slack, Teams and Jira are supported. Read our Tability alternatives.

OKIAR

OKIAR also sits beside Small Improvements rather than replacing it. It runs objectives, key results and KPIs, with no reviews, 1:1s or surveys. It has no Microsoft Teams app and no Jira integration; Slack, Telegram and MCP are what it connects to. The beta is free, with no card, no user minimum and no set end date, and Okiar is already live today.

The .xls or .csv from Small Improvements can go into OKIAR's goal import, which helps map people, teams and parent links for you to review where the file has them. Custom periods and optional extra owners fit odd cycles and shared goals. You run the move yourself; OKIAR can offer migration help.

When to stay with Small Improvements

Stay if reviews are your main process and objectives are a light add-on. Stay if you're on Slack, over 20 people, and happy with Grow at $6, which is hard to beat for reviews plus 360s plus 1:1s. Stay if simplicity is why your managers actually use it. Adding a separate OKR tool may cost less than switching everything.

What you can take out of Small Improvements

HR admins open Objectives in the Admin menu, pick a cycle and choose Export, either ordered by owners or by objectives, as .xls or .csv. Files wait under Settings > Latest Exports. Export each cycle you want to keep. Our Small Improvements migration guide explains which columns to pick and how to restore alignment.
