Culture Amp migration: two goal reports, one rebuilt tree
Facts checked October 27, 2026
Culture Amp gives you two goal files, and you'll want both. The Goals report export is an .xlsx file anyone can download from the Goals page, with owners, dates, status, progress and key results. What it doesn't name is each goal's parent. It shows an Alignment Count instead.
The parent relationships sit in the Goal Usage Report, an admin CSV that can include alignment and key results. Join the two on Goal ID and you have what you need to rebuild the tree.
Before you start: who runs which report
- Goals report: anyone. It includes only goals the person exporting has permission to view, so an account administrator should run it for a full set.
- Goal Usage Report: admins. Account administrators and people with full or scoped Goals permissions can export it.
- Mind the two-year window. With no filters, the Goals report reaches back two years at most. Older goals need a date filter.
- Separate surveys from goals. Engagement surveys, reviews and one-on-ones stay in Culture Amp if you keep its Engage or Perform plans. Culture Amp's pricing is quote only, so ask your account team what removing goal management changes.
Step 1: Pull both Culture Amp reports
| Report | Where | Format | Gives you | Missing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Goals report export | Goals page, any tab, Export goals | .xlsx | Goal ID, type, owners, dates, status, progress, key results | Parent goal; older than two years unless filtered |
| Goal Usage Report | Goals, Reporting icon, Export report | CSV | Goals per employee group, with alignment and key results if chosen | One group per export |
| Goal Creation Report | Goals, Reporting icon | On screen | Participation by team | Goal details |
| Goal URL | Open a single goal | Link | The goal ID at the end of the URL | Anything else |
The Goals report export
Go to Goals and open the tab that covers what you need: Your Goals, Direct reports, Company or All goals. Add filters, then click Export goals. Sheet one lists Goal Name, Goal Description, Goal ID, Goal Type, Group Name, Owners, Date Created, Date Published, Due Date, Updated Date, Alignment Count, Overall Goal Progress, Goal Status, and each key result's name, owners, progress and status. Sheet two holds pie charts, which you can delete.
Culture Amp warns that large exports can stall. Split them by date range or goal status.
The Goal Usage Report
On the Goals page, click the Reporting icon next to Create goal, then Export report next to Goal usage. Choose a group (Company covers all active employees), tick Key Results & Actions and Alignment, and add any demographics you need. The date range filters by due date, not by creation date. Collaboration goals only appear when you export with no filters.
Rows with an empty Goal ID belong to people with no goals. That doubles as a list of who to skip.
Step 2: Join the files and check them
Run four checks on the joined file:
- Every Goal ID from the Goals report appears in the Usage Report.
- Each goal with an Alignment Count above zero has a matching alignment entry.
- Draft goals, with no Date Published, are removed or set aside.
- Goal Type is noted, so development goals don't land in your OKR tree.
Goals from former employees are included if their visibility let you see them. Reassign those before you import.

Step 3: Rebuild your Culture Amp goals in OKIAR
Upload the joined workbook to OKIAR's goal import. It reads multi-sheet Excel, CSV, PDF, Word, text, Markdown up to 5 MB, and helps map people, teams and parent links for you to review. You can run it at sign-up or later.
- Sign up free at okiar.app/signup.
- Import delivery goals for the current period first.
- Compare the draft tree with the alignment data before you confirm.
- Turn group goals into team objectives.
- Keep co-owners where they share the goal. Extra owners are optional in OKIAR.
- Revisit weights. Culture Amp's cascading goals can weight supporting goals, while OKIAR weights key results. Decide by hand where each weight belongs.
- Pick a period. Custom periods fit any Culture Amp due date pattern.
Where each Culture Amp field goes in OKIAR
| Culture Amp | OKIAR | Look out for |
|---|---|---|
| Goal Name and Description | Objective | Individual development goals |
| Goal ID | Used to join files | IDs reused across sheets |
| Goal Type and Group Name | Team or personal objective | Collaboration goals |
| Owners | Owner and extra owners | Former employees |
| Alignment (Usage Report) | Parent link | Primary versus supporting |
| Alignment Count | Check only | Counts with no match |
| Due Date | Period | Goals without dates |
| Overall Goal Progress | Progress | Goals with no key results |
| Goal Status | Status, then pacing | Off track versus At risk |
| KR Name | Key result | Action items mixed in |
| KR Owners | Key result owner | Several owners per result |
| KR Progress (current of target) | Current and target value | Missing start values |
| KR Status | Key result status | Completed below 100% |
All 13 fields shown.
Status names that look alike
Culture Amp and OKIAR both use the words On track and At risk, but OKIAR derives them. Per its objective docs, On track means at least 0.7 of expected progress for the date, Behind means 0.4 to 0.69, and At risk means under 0.4. Owners can set Not started, Closed or Abandoned. So a goal Culture Amp shows as On track may show Behind in OKIAR on day one. Check-ins also take a confidence score from 0 to 10.
Step 4: Replace the integrations
Culture Amp's plans page lists Slack and Microsoft Teams integrations on every plan. Its install guide adds that you can run one or the other, not both, and that the apps handle survey and performance notifications plus feedback.
| Culture Amp | OKIAR |
|---|---|
| Slack | Slack: check-in reminders and channel updates |
| Microsoft Teams | No Teams app; Teams users can move to Slack or Telegram |
| AI Coach | OKIAR's MCP server creates objectives, key results and KPIs, and updates progress and check-ins |
Step 5: Run the first check-in
Book a short session with every owner the week you go live. Each enters current values, a confidence score and blockers in OKIAR. Compare the top objectives with Culture Amp, then save both report files with your records.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Culture Amp goals export include parent goals?
Not by name. The Goals report shows an Alignment Count. The Goal Usage Report can include alignment information.
Why is my export missing old goals?
With no filters, the Goals report covers only the last two years. Add a date filter to reach older goals.
Can I import goals back into Culture Amp?
Yes, with help. Admins fill in the goal import template and send it to Product Support, who run the upload. Collaboration goals can't be imported.
Can I keep Culture Amp surveys and use OKIAR for goals?
Yes. OKIAR doesn't connect to Culture Amp, so the two run side by side.
What does OKIAR cost?
It's a free beta with no card and no set end date. Okiar is already live today.
