ClearPoint migration: turning scorecards and measures into OKRs

Facts checked October 27, 2026

ClearPoint is built around scorecards, measures and the monthly report pack. Moving to an OKR tool changes the shape of the data as well as its home. A ClearPoint objective with six measures and a quarterly status becomes an OKIAR objective with a few key results and a weekly check-in. This guide covers ClearPoint's Excel, PDF and API exports, then how to decide which measures become key results and which become KPIs.

Steps 1 and 2 work for any destination. Steps 3 to 5 explain OKIAR.

Before you start: ClearPoint's data model in brief

ClearPoint's developer docs explain the pieces you'll be exporting:

  • Elements. The default types are Scorecard, Category, Objective, Measure, Initiative, Milestone, Action Item and Risk. Your organisation may have renamed them, so "Goal" in your account might be an Objective underneath.
  • Edit fields and update fields. Edit fields, like name, definition and owner, rarely change. Update fields, like actuals, targets, statuses and notes, belong to one reporting period.
  • Reporting periods. Performance data is stored per period. When an API call names no period, most read endpoints fall back to the scorecard's default period.

That last point catches people out. Pick the period you're migrating before you export anything.

Step 1: Choose your ClearPoint exports

All of these appear in ClearPoint's export guide, apart from the measure tables and the API. Exported files arrive by email, and past exports sit under Documents, Page Exports.

Export finder

Which ClearPoint export can you still get?

A few yes-or-no questions, based on the help articles cited above.

Question 1

Is your ClearPoint contract still active?

The Excel summary report

Follow the Summary Report export steps: open Scorecard & Elements, then Manage Reports, choose the report, open the menu beside the pencil and pick Export to Excel, then Generate. Pick a grid report whose columns include names, owners and the fields you need. You may need one export for objectives and another for measures. A grid sheet is the closest thing to an OKR file ClearPoint makes.

Measure history

If you want past actuals, export each measure's data table to Excel as well, per the measure data article. It's one file per measure, so pick the ones you'll keep tracking.

The API

The API comes with the Enterprise plan. You can read objectives and measures, then fetch period data per measure. Some endpoints return an error without a periodId. The OpenAPI file at apidoc.clearpointstrategy.com/openapi.json loads into Postman. ClearPoint also lists an MCP server for AI clients and a Zapier app.

Step 2: Separate OKRs from ongoing measures

Before you plan the move, sort the summary report row by row:

  1. Objectives to keep. Strategic objectives that still matter this year.
  2. Measures that should move. A measure with a target you want to hit this quarter becomes a key result.
  3. Measures you only watch. Revenue, headcount or a safety rate you track every month becomes a KPI.
  4. Leftovers. Flag owners who have left, and initiatives, milestones and action items you no longer need.

ClearPoint's statuses are set per period, so last month's red isn't this month's status. Note the latest one for reference only.

File check

Is your export ready to import?

Tick the four checks as you do them and enter your file size.

Enter your file size to check it against the upload limit.

  • Still to do: Objectives to keep are picked
  • Still to do: Measures with targets are marked as key results
  • Still to do: Measures you only watch are marked as KPIs
  • Still to do: Owners who have left and unneeded initiatives are flagged

Moving to another strategy tool

If board-pack reporting is the reason you use ClearPoint, an OKR tool may be the wrong swap. Our ClearPoint alternatives page covers tools with more reporting depth. WorkBoard exports scorecards to CSV, PDF or PowerPoint, and our WorkBoard migration guide covers leaving it later.

Step 3: Rebuild the plan in OKIAR

OKIAR's goal import, described in the sign-up guide, reads Excel and CSV, multi-sheet workbooks included, plus PDF, Word, text and Markdown, up to 5 MB. It accepts Convert API output to CSV before upload. Owners, teams and parent links come through into a draft you edit before accepting. A Briefing Book PDF can be uploaded as well, though a clean Excel sheet gives a better draft.

  1. Sign up free. No card, and the beta has no user cap.
  2. Upload the trimmed summary report for the period you're starting with.
  3. Review the draft. Expect to rewrite some measure names as outcome key results.
  4. Turn scorecards into teams, then invite people as Admin, Manager, Contributor or Viewer.
  5. Nest department objectives under company ones.
  6. Give each key result a start value, current value, target, unit and direction.
  7. Add weights where one key result matters more. OKIAR supports weighting.
  8. Create KPIs for the measures you only watch, then connect Slack.

How OKIAR's statuses work

ClearPoint statuses are evaluated per period. OKIAR's, per the objective docs, come from pacing, which compares progress with what's expected by today. You can override them.

Step 4: Reporting and automation you'll replace

  • Data Loader. ClearPoint's Data Loader loads data from Excel, CSV or SQL, and on Professional and Enterprise plans it can run on a schedule. OKIAR has nothing like it. Owners enter numbers in check-ins, or an assistant does through OKIAR's MCP server. It creates objectives, key results and KPIs, updates current values and files check-ins within the person's role and team.
  • Teams. ClearPoint reaches Microsoft Teams through ClearBot. OKIAR has no Teams app. It has Slack and Telegram.
  • Briefing Books and HTML reports. OKIAR doesn't produce board packs. Keep your last Briefing Book as the record.

Step 5: From monthly reporting to weekly check-ins

  • Choose a check-in day and template for each team.
  • Owners give progress, a confidence score from 0 to 10 and blockers, by voice or text.
  • Leaders read the weekly summary in place of chasing updates before the monthly report.
  • After a month, Insights shows pacing and recurring blockers.

Our weekly check-in template has five prompts to adapt.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best ClearPoint export for moving to OKRs?

A grid-style Summary Report exported to Excel. Set it up to list objectives, owners and measures for one period.

Can I keep measure history?

Export each measure's data table to Excel and keep the files. OKIAR starts each key result from its current value.

Does OKIAR replace the Data Loader?

No. OKIAR has no scheduled data feeds. Numbers come in through check-ins or an assistant over MCP.

Will OKIAR rebuild our scorecards and reports?

Migration help is available. It does not recreate ClearPoint reports, charts or Briefing Books.

What does OKIAR cost?

It's free in beta, with no card and no caps on objectives, key results, KPIs or members. The beta has no set end date, and Okiar is already live today. A Pro plan is listed at "TBD/seat/month".
