OKR Software Comparison
The Best Betterworks Alternative for OKR Management in 2026
Betterworks is genuinely one of the better enterprise OKR platforms. The conversation templates work. The alignment features are real. But if you're a team under 200 people paying $12–18/person/month for a goal-setting tool, you're probably subsidizing capabilities you'll never use. Here's the full comparison.

Okiar vs Betterworks: feature comparison
| Feature | Okiar | Betterworks |
|---|---|---|
| AI-assisted check-ins | ✓Voice → AI structures update, extracts KR values, tags blockers automatically | AI writing suggestions for conversation starters — not for structuring progress data |
| Voice input | ✓Native voice capture in every check-in field | No voice input — form-based only |
| Quarter-end projection | ✓Linear regression projection per KR based on actual check-in velocity | Status indicators only (on track / at risk) — no numeric projection |
| Check-in time | ✓Under 2 minutes (voice-first) | 8–15 minutes (conversation templates + manual KR updates) |
| Pricing | ✓Free during beta | $12–18/user/month (enterprise pricing, often higher) |
| Conversation quality (1:1s) | OKR-focused check-ins only — no dedicated 1:1 conversation feature | Structured 1:1 conversation guides built around OKR progress |
| HRIS integrations | Limited integrations (in development) | Workday, SAP, ADP, BambooHR — enterprise-grade HR connectors |
| Enterprise governance | Single workspace model, admin controls | Multi-business-unit hierarchy, cross-org alignment, org-wide rollups |
Where Betterworks genuinely wins
Let's not pretend this is a one-sided comparison. Betterworks has been building OKR software since 2013. They've figured out things Okiar hasn't gotten to yet.
The 1:1 conversation guides are legitimately good — they prompt managers with the right questions at the right point in the OKR cycle, and they tie conversation notes directly to KR progress. If your team struggles with manager-to-direct-report OKR conversations, that feature alone might be worth the price.
Enterprise integrations are another real advantage. If you're running HR in Workday and need OKRs to sync with headcount data, Betterworks has the connectors. Okiar doesn't — not yet. And for truly large organizations (500+ people) with multiple business units, Betterworks' multi-org alignment hierarchy is something Okiar doesn't offer.
Where the gap matters
Check-in friction is the real problem
The reason most OKR programs fail isn't the goal-setting phase — it's the middle eight weeks of the quarter. Betterworks' conversation templates assume teams have structured 1:1 meetings happening consistently. Many growth-stage teams don't. When the 1:1 doesn't happen, the OKR update doesn't happen either, and by week six you're interpolating data.
Okiar's check-in model is async and voice-first. You don't need a meeting. You speak your update — 90 seconds, phone mic, walking between rooms — and the AI structures it, extracts where each KR currently stands, and tags any blockers. The data is in the system the same day. Betterworks still requires someone to open a form.
No projection layer
Betterworks shows you status: on track, at risk, behind. What it doesn't show is a number — specifically, "based on current velocity, this KR will land at 72% by quarter-end." That distinction matters because "at risk" is a judgment call, and people are optimistic. A projected number is math. Okiar calculates the projection automatically from check-in history.
Pricing at growth scale
At a 50-person startup, Betterworks runs roughly $7,200–$10,800 per year at published list pricing. That's a meaningful budget item for a company that may still be pre-Series B. Okiar is free during beta. After beta, pricing will be materially cheaper than Betterworks — because we're not trying to be an enterprise HR platform.
Which team should switch from Betterworks to Okiar?
- Startups or scale-ups under 300 people who don't need multi-BU hierarchy
- Teams whose check-in completion rate is below 60% — voice check-ins typically bring this above 80%
- Organizations where managers and ICs are async-first (remote teams, distributed time zones)
- Anyone paying for Betterworks primarily because it was the first OKR tool they evaluated
Betterworks is the right call if you're a 500+ person organization with complex cross-departmental OKR alignment, active HRIS integrations, or a people ops team that runs formal 1:1 programs tied to goal progress. Don't switch Betterworks for something lighter just because it's cheaper — some of that complexity is load-bearing.
